After Digital Impact, it’s time to add the Steinberg Soundworks FZ-1 sample editor to our archive page.
Soundworks FZ-1 is a sample editor for the Casio FZ-1 and FZ-10M, running on Atari ST. It was created and commercialized in 1988.
As the developer of this software, I plan to release an unprotected version, but I first need legal permission from the former publisher Steinberg to do that.
Wow it´d be great to use this soft with my FZ1 on an Atari emulator. A dream. Any projection on when it´ll be available unlocked?
@JavierZ Unfortunately I have no news.
Hi, thank you for taking the time to update this software! I know i speak for many who are still using this underrated synth/sampler nearly 40 years after it’s release when I say I hope you will consider releasing it unlocked after giving Steinberg sufficient time to respond. I feel it’s very unlikely they will, given there’s no incentive for them either way – they certainly can’t sell licenses for long obsolete software (although if they did I would certainly buy one!). As far as I know yours is the only full graphical editor for the FZ in existence… I have tried the cracked version 1.0 that is around but it’s super buggy. As someone said above it would be a dream to use this with an atari emulator like STeem! It would really open up this extremely capable machine. Thanks again.
Thanks for this great infopage and the great looking classic software! (Always loved the crisp, clean look of monochrome OG Mac and ST software! Korg Trinity and Triton big LCDs and OS kinda have same vibe…)
Did you have any involvement with Steinberg Avalon sample editor & synthesis software? It had FZ-specific compatibility.
Also, was Soundworks FZ-1 written in Steinberg’s custom M-ROS environment?
